She thought she’d be perfect for the job because of her experience in real estate and business. “I knew about real estate. I knew about business.. Why would they give it to someone else? I never understood.” she said.

While I appreciate being a backup, I’m used to coming in first.”
In the email that frames her even to this day, she spoke of resilience and overcoming hardship – being told she would never succeed in school and working her way into a male-dominated industry. “When my third-grade teacher said I’d always be stupid because I couldn’t read, she was wrong. I can read today,” she wrote. She also noted how she became a top competitor in New York City’s real estate world despite being shut out by the “old boys’ network.”
