Shark Tank has entered its sixteenth season, and so has Barbara Corcoran. Having joined as an investor since its pilot episode, Barbara has come across hundreds of pitches and made countless deals on the show. This is what makes her a Shark veteran who has the right advice for every pitcher.

In a recent social media post by Shark Tank’s makers, different judges, including Barbara Corcoran, were asked to share some DOs and DON’Ts for pitchers planning to test their luck on the show. Below are the points shared by the real estate queen:

1. Don’t Talk Too Much

As mentioned by Barbara Corcoran in the Instagram post, if an entrepreneur talks too much during a pitch, it ‘puts all the Sharks to sleep right away.’ This is why every pitcher should share the required details only, including their product/company’s name, its offering, investment ask, and sales and profits made.

Apart from these, an entrepreneur can talk about their plans regarding the Shark Tank product’s scalability. After this, they should wait for the Sharks’ questions and reply accordingly. Discussing anything extra would not benefit them.

2. Look The Part

According to Barbara, one point that is often overlooked by pitchers on Shark Tank is that they do not dress professionally. If an entrepreneur approaches the Shark investors looking that way, they get the impression that the person has not come for a serious business conversation.

As the nature of Shark Tank is such that the judges act professionally, they expect the same from pitchers. This professionalism includes the way they dress up and meet the investors, as it reflects seriousness and credibility.

3. Present A Solution

When asked about a third piece of advice for entrepreneurs to land a successful Shark Tank pitch, Barbara gave an interesting answer. She said that while she initially thought to say ‘know your numbers,’ she would replace the advice with ‘sell me on you.’ ‘Sell me on your dream.’

With this point, Barbara Corcoran hinted that pitchers who plan to come on the show should come prepared with a solution that their product can provide. If they fail to show that their Shark Tank product solves a purpose, none of the judges would be interested in making an offer.

The advice by Barbara Corcoran regarding how to land a successful Shark Tank pitch centered on keeping it concise, dressing professionally, and emphasizing a convincing solution. Following these guidelines can help pitchers engage the Sharks, reflect their credibility, and ultimately offer them a deal.
