What Happened on the Shark Tank Episode?

Co-founder of the company, Brittane Rowe, marches through the gates of Shark Tank and delivers a fun, enthusiastic pitch for her business, Hella Awkward. She talks about how socializing can sometimes be challenging at parties or how conversations at home with family can run dry. She emphasizes how her card game can break the ice—her card game can save that sinking ship!

She believes this card game can spark genuine connections between people. It is like a lifesaver when it comes to forming new bonds. She explains the game thoroughly to the sharks, from rules to gameplay, covering every aspect.

Brittane believes the most hella awkward moments lead to the most hella meaningful bonds. She ends the pitch by asking, “Who is ready to get hella awkward?”

Robert turns to Brit, “I have an awkward question for you,” and then the questions and answers begin.

  • The Sharks ask if Hella Awkward has any sales, to which Brit replies that they do. Launched in mid-2021, lifetime sales are $600K.
  • The first year, sales met a milestone of $90K. The next year, they reached $110K, and last year, they did $250K. This year’s projection is $600K.
  • Mark was curious to know the reason behind this year’s projection. The reason is that last year, Hella Awkward was launched at Target in 450 stores, which has now expanded to 520 stores. Additionally, they have launched into Walmart in 600 stores and are about to increase that to a thousand.
  • The manufacturing cost of the product is $2.80, and the selling price is $24.99. The expansion pack costs $12.99 and includes 45 more questions, with each unit costing less than a dollar to produce. Recently, a new pack of cards called Build-A-Bae was launched.

Did Hella Awkward Get a Deal on Shark Tank?

Brittane, an ex-theater actor, came on behalf of her team of three co-founders, seeking $200K for 10% of the company. The Sharks found the Hella Awkward cards to be a fun venture, and after knowing the trajectory of sales, they grew more interested.

  • Kevin proposes to take over distribution if he becomes a partner with the team. He offers $200K for a 25% stake.
  • Robert offers to invest $200K for 10% of the company, just as Brittane asked.
