Schuyler Ellers splashes into the Shark Tank with Lord Von Schmitt, his whimsical clothing made from repurposed afghans, in Shark Tank episode 1123. Ellers first learned to knit while teaching English in Spain. He was acting in a very low budget film and he began knitting costumes for the film’s actors. While perusing thrift stores, he found old afghans for $2 each. He figured out how to re-purpose them into clothing and the rest is history.
In 2010, he brought his wares to a Los Angeles fashion show, but unfortunately, he didn’t sell anything. He decided to open an Etsy shop and call his business Lord Von Schmitt after his college nickname. In 2015, the E! television network ran a segment on his crocheted shorts and he got 60 orders in a few days. In the years that followed, he’s sold nearly 2000 garments from his website.
Now, Ellers lives in his hometown of Nevada City, making a living selling his line of pants, shorts, vests, and more. Some of the items are pricey. A one of a kind tail coat (which he wears on the show) costs $2499.00! Most items are in the $100-$300 range and there’s a huge variety in his Etsy Shop and on Amazon. Ellers has a very custom product, but perhaps he wants a Shark to help make his clothing more mainstream.

Lord Von Schmitt Shark Tank Recap
Schuyler will pitch the panel of five Sharks on the business and its prospects for growth. He’ll need to convince Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec and Daymond John that the company is worthy of a Shark investment. A good business plan, good financials, and sales data will impress the Sharks, but he’ll need to show them HE is capable of running the company to “Shark standards.” A full pitch re-cap on Lord Von Schmitt will be available on Shark Tank Blog once this episode airs.
