In the world of pet care, the journey of Mella Pet Care stands as a beacon of innovation and compassion. Founded in 2019 by Anya Babbitt and Ben Saidman, Mella Pet Care is poised to make a significant splash as they step into the spotlight on Shark Tank this Friday, March 1st.
Anya Babbitt and Ben Saidman, with over a decade of experience in crafting groundbreaking medical devices, embarked on their entrepreneurial journey by developing a pulse oximeter and an infrared thermometer tailored for infants back in 2015. However, it was a personal experience that ignited the spark for their latest venture, Mella Pet Care.
Mella Pet Care Inspiration
Anya’s beloved rescue dog, Mella, fell ill with a severe case of kennel cough. The ordeal was fraught with uncertainty as subtle symptoms manifested, leaving Anya grappling with the decision of when to seek veterinary care. The absence of accessible health tracking tools for pets compounded the anxiety. If only she had a thermometer to monitor Mella’s temperature, perhaps they could have averted the crisis before it escalated.
Reflecting on Mella’s aversion to vet visits and the discomfort associated with traditional temperature-taking methods, Anya and Ben recognized a glaring gap in the market. Thus, Mella Pet Care was born—a testament to their commitment to revolutionize pet health monitoring.
The Product
Mella Pet Care introduces an ecosystem of technology-driven solutions designed to empower both pet parents and veterinarians in safeguarding the well-being of furry companions. At the heart of their offerings lies the Mella Home Thermometer, a groundbreaking innovation that measures a pet’s temperature accurately under the foreleg—a far cry from the dreaded rectal thermometers of yore.
The Mella Home Thermometer, equipped with machine learning capabilities, provides swift and precise temperature readings in under 15 seconds. Paired with an intuitive iOS or Android app, pet owners can seamlessly track and share vital health data with their veterinarians in real-time, fostering proactive care and timely interventions.
But Mella Pet Care’s vision extends beyond temperature monitoring. With forthcoming products such as a body fat analyzer and pulse oximeter, they aim to establish a comprehensive suite of preventative tools, empowering pets to lead longer, happier lives.
The Mission
At the core of Mella Pet Care’s mission is a commitment to partnership and collaboration. Drawing on Anya’s expertise in strategic alliances and Ben’s penchant for problem-solving, they forge ahead in their quest to redefine pet healthcare. Their dedication has not gone unnoticed, with accolades from esteemed institutions like the United Nations and TechCrunch underscoring their impact.
As Mella Pet Care prepares to take center stage on Shark Tank, the world eagerly anticipates the next chapter in their journey. With innovation, compassion, and a furry muse named Mella leading the way, Mella Pet Care is poised to transform the landscape of pet health monitoring, one wagging tail at a time.
My Take on Mella Pet Care
Regular readers know I have a 70 pound American Bulldog named Zoey. She’s a wonderful dog and we take her to the vet every year for her shots. Our vet uses an ear thermometer. Zoey would NOT like a rectal thermometer (who really does). I am committed to her health and well being, so dropping $65 on a thermometer for her would not be a problem.
Do Sharks Use Thermometers?
I’m thinking this business won’t get a deal. The main reason is there are dozens of pet thermometers out there – even ear thermometers. Unless they can articulate why their thermometer is different, I think it’ll be an uphill battle.
