Highlights:

  • Robert Herjavec tells how rejections can be a powerful motivator if one knows how to channel it the right way.
  • During a podcast, Robert addresses one mistake parents often make about the financial aspect of their children’s education.
  • Shark Tank judge’s valuable suggestions could transform lives of people bogged down by rejections.

Rejections can be hard. But here’s the thing: They are inevitable too. We all go through them at several phases of our lives. Be it a rejection from the dream school, or in a job interview– we’ve all faced rejections at some point. But what sets a person apart from the crowd is how well one can take those rejections.

Robert Herjavec, who appears as one of the main panelists on the reality show Shark Tank, has recently shared the best way to handle rejections. During an interview with Rebecca Jarvis for ABC, Robert candidly gave his example while giving advice of a lifetime.

Robert Herjavec Shares How To Handle Rejections

In a new podcast episode of Real Biz with Rebecca Jarvis, Robert was asked to give advice to the children who got the rejection letter from their dream school. Robert replied, “You take the rejection letter, you frame it, and you put it up on a wall. And you let that fuel your passion in order to become successful. Because it doesn’t matter how many times people say no to you, it’s what you do with it.”

Robert then shared this clip on his official Instagram handle and wrote, “Here’s what to do when someone rejects you.”

His valuable piece of advice is hitting the right chords with the netizens. Ed Boutilier, a Canada-based businessman who now owns and manages multiple tech and real estate companies, came forward in the comment section and shared what happened after he was rejected from his dream school.

Boutilier wrote, “I received a rejection letter from IBM when I graduated from College hoping for a career with them. Fast forward 10 years later and I owned my own tech company and they became a client. You just never know what’s up ahead.”

Robert Herjavec’s Important Message To Young People

Children and their families often feel clueless after receiving rejection from dream schools. Some are also blinded by the idea that expensive schools and colleges offer “better” education. Robert says, “Don’t go into massive debt, to get a better education. It’s a bad strategy.”

Robert points out how families and students often spend massive amounts of money for “better” education. During the podcast, he said, “Forget the better education. Get an education and get some experience.”

Robert didn’t come from a wealthy or well-educated family. With financial hardships and a lack of career guidance, he graduated with a degree in English Literature from New College at the University of Toronto. But he says that “it’s tough to get a job with that kind of degree.”

He didn’t go to fancy schools. However, he got the right work experience and worked up the career ladder. Robert told Rebecca, “You look at the five sharks. Very few of us went to a fancy school. Half of us never finished university and here we are! Ten years after you get a job, does anybody ever ask “where did you go to school?”

Robert Herjavec’s personal journey inspires people who come from humble backgrounds and dream big. His suggestions about rejections are a significant lesson for people of all ages who get bogged down with the hurdles and underestimate themselves.
