Aaron Walls and Brett Vegas hope to raise a toast to a new partnership for The Beer Mkr, their simple home beer brewing kit. If you’ve ever looked into brewing beer, it can be a very complicated undertaking. These guys aim to make it easy. Imagine if you will a service that sends you all the ingredients to brew beer in pre-measured packets. Put them into a machine that automatically heats and cools the beer and in a week you’ll have a gallon or so of home brew. While it’s brewing, you can monitor everything with its accompanying app. Sounds pretty cool, huh?
The business is an offshoot of another company called Brew Jacket that was a project at Cornell’s business school. That company sells brewing equipment for more experienced brewers. The Beer Mkr is more like “The Dummies’ Guide to Home Brewing.” It’s pretty much a plug and play solution.
The units are about the size of a microwave oven and cost $579. The “MkrKits” or the ingredients, cost $59 four a four pack and $89 for a six pack. They’re constantly coming out with new kits so you can switch things up. The company did a Kickstarter in 2018 to get going (Walls did 3 additional Kickstarters for Brew Jacket). Now, they are fully stocked and ready to start selling some BeerMkrs!
My Take on The Beer Mkr
This looks like a handy unit. I tried making beer about 15 years ago. It was an unmitigated disaster. I would always just miss on the temperature and my wife got mad at me because I stunk up the house! I ended up giving everything to an uncle and he still uses it. I wish I had a BeerMkr back then.
I probably wouldn’t buy one of these now. I don’t dink enough beer for it to make sense. I can count how many beers I’ve had in the last year on one hand. I’m more of a bourbon or vodka guy – too many carbs in beer. I think it’s a cool machine though.
Will Sharks Raise a Glass and Invest?
I’m hoping that, if Beer Mkr gets a deal, they’ll use some of the money to BUY A VOWEL! My computer kept trying to auto-correct the company name while typing this post!
But seriously, these guys seem to know their business and they have a cool product. They should garner a bid or two if their valuation is good. I don’t know if this is a good fit for Lori, but she could be a sleeper here. Mark is a beer guy, so I expect a bid from him. I’m thinking this is a deal where they get bids but don’t accept one.
