Getting respect is one of the core aspirations of everyone’s life. Every living being wants to be respected in their personal and professional lives. Those who aren’t respected are not taken seriously by anyone. On the other hand, respected people walk with dignity. They are the people who others want to hear and follow. Their actions are praised and taken as inspiration.
Every human being deserves respect irrespective of their age or the position they hold in their career. Lori Greiner explains five ways to become the most respected person in a room. In a latest Instagram video, she shares simple tips that everyone must follow if they want to earn respect in their life.
5 Ways To Earn Respect
Lori Greiner has a simple guide that can help a person gain respect in life. Her tips are based on common moral values that children learn in schools and often forget to apply in their lives as they grow up. If a person can follow these five tips, they’ll witness a change in people’s perception towards them.
1. You Gain Respect When You Give Respect
People often make the mistake of believing they are entitled to be respected. The thing is, every person deserves respect, but only if they are kind and compassionate and don’t bully others.
Lori points out in her video, “Respect isn’t given. It’s earned.” One can’t expect to be respected if one can’t learn to respect others. Imagine an office where a boss doesn’t respect his subordinates and treats them poorly. The staff would never respect such a boss.
2. Always Admit When You Are Wrong
People are often egoistic when it comes to owning up to their mistakes. Elders don’t generally apologize to their children, believing that the children would stop respecting them if they did. This is exactly where they are wrong.
Lori says, “There is no honor in holding on to that you can’t make a mistake. It actually makes you look bad.” People who are able to admit their mistakes instantly earn respect from others.
3. Stand Behind Your Words And Commitments
There’s nothing more disrespectful than people’s inability to stay true to their words. If a commitment is done, efforts must be made to fulfill it. Promised a friend to meet over the weekend? Don’t bail out at the last minute. Told your spouse you’d get the chores done? Don’t disappoint.
The Shark Tank judge highlights that if someone wants respect, they need to learn how to be reliable. “Be someone people can count on,” she says.
4. Come From A Place Of Dignity And Grace
Dignity is one of the most basic traits that makes someone worthy of respect and honor. It can be defined as the inherent worth and value of a person. Dignity can’t be earned, nor can it be taken away. Dignity builds self-esteem and self-respect.
At the same time, people who know how to be graceful automatically stand apart from the crowd and gain respect from others.
5. Be Decisive
Lori Greiner believes that a person must be decisive in order to gain respect from others. Those who can make clear decisions always stand out and gain instant recognition and respect.
It is also important to remain calm and composed. Freaking out doesn’t solve any problem. Imagine being caught up in a life-threatening situation. A person who is a quick-thinker and calm-headed would be the one who could take the situation under control and help people who are stuck along with him. And guess what? He will automatically become the most respected person among strangers.

While applying these lessons in their lives, one must remember that respect is always driven by kindness, empathy and compassion. Respect is a two-way street. One gets what he gives. With Lori’s suggestions, people can make positive changes in their life, be it gaining respect from others, or developing a sense of self-respect within them.
