One such example was seen during the ‘SPERGO Shark Tank’ pitch in the thirteenth season.

Trey Brown, a Philadelphia-based teenage entrepreneur, appeared in front of the Shark investors with his mom, Sherell Peterson. Pitching for his fashion brand SPERGO, he presented his collection and shared his backstory with the judges. Trey was successful in bagging a deal from Daymond John.

Below are details regarding the new developments after the SPERGO Shark Tank deal. Along with it, there is a recap of Trey’s pitch on the show and how he managed to secure a deal from Daymond.

SPERGO Shark Tank: What Happened After The Show

Having appeared on the show in 2021, SPERGO saw the famous ‘Shark Tank Effect.’ This is because Trey’s company sales saw a massive spike, with more than 1000 online orders in 5 days after the episode. Prior to this, the fashion brand generally used to receive 40-60 online orders a week.

Additionally, SPERGO opened its third brick-and-mortar store in Virginia in the same year. The teen entrepreneur also hinted that he was in the works for starting a sneaker line as well. Based on his Philadelphian roots, the Philadelphia 76ers offered Trey a $200K grant.

All of the above developments helped SPERGO end its 2021 sales for a whopping $2.5 million. Plus, Trey published his book titled ‘Trey’s Way: My Entrepreneurial Keys to Success.’

The next year brought further positive additions to both Trey and SPERGO’s journeys. The 15-year-old entrepreneur was placed on the list of AfroTech’s ‘Future 50.’ Plus, the sales for SPERGO in 2022 were $3 million. This motivated Trey to keep opening new pop-up stores in New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Virginia.

The projected sales for SPERGO in 2023 were $4 million. Additionally, as of 2024, the annual revenue is estimated to be $2.9 million. Trey’s fashion brand is still very much active and its product line can be found on its website.

Now that the latest developments after the SPERGO Shark Tank journey have been given, have a look at its performance on the show.

SPERGO Shark Tank: Pitch Recap

Teen entrepreneur Trey Brown, along with his mother, Sherell Peterson, approached the Shark investors in the thirteenth season with SPERGO. Seeking $300K for 10% equity, Trey emphasized his billionaire mindset. He added how he started SPERGO amidst the violent atmosphere in Philadelphia.

Trey stated that the name of his apparel brand, SPERGO, was a mix of SPorts, hERoes, and GO. He started the business with just $178 but managed to sell $40K worth of shirts in its first year. In 2019, SPERGO’s sales reached $176K. The next year, this number escalated to $825K. Projected sales for 2021 were $2.2 million.

Before Shark Tank, SPERGO had already got support from celebrities. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs offered him a $25K grant, which Trey used to launch a brick-and-mortar store. Other supporters of SPERGO from the black community were Tierra Whack, Eric Thomas, Charles Barkley, Da Baby, Meek Mill, and Gherbo.

Trey further added that by the time of the SPERGO Shark Tank journey, he had 89K followers on Instagram, and SPERGO’s official page had 71K followers. Discussing the sales breakdown, the entrepreneur revealed that 70% of SPERGO’s sales were through its pop-up shops and stores. Whereas the rest, 30%, were online.

How Did SPERGO Bag A Deal From Daymond John?

Each of the Shark panel members was impressed with Trey’s journey as a teen entrepreneur. However, they were apprehensive about making an offer. Only two Shark investors showed an interest in the SPERGO Shark Tank deal. Their names were Mark Cuban and Daymond John.

Mark made an offer because he was fond of investing in ‘young superstars.’ His proposed deal was $300K for 25%. Daymond chose to make an offer as Trey’s story reminded him of his beginnings. Although Mark asked him to join him in the deal, Daymond refused and proposed the same offer as Mark.

In the end, Trey countered Daymond with 20% equity, which he agreed to. So, the SPERGO Shark Tank deal was locked for $300K at 20% equity in the company.

Conclusion

The success ride of SPERGO after its Shark Tank appearance has been exemplary. Right after the SPERGO Shark Tank deal, the fashion brand witnessed amazing growth with a surge in sales, expansion of the product line, and launch of new stores. The company has been reaching heights with Trey’s entrepreneurial spirit.

The teen entrepreneur’s growth reiterates the power of perseverance and a robust business vision.
